The San Jose Sharks had a disappointing season in 2011-12. At the beginning of the season, they looked set to run away with the Pacific Division and make another deep run in the Stanley Cup playoffs. After the All-Star break, the team went through long stretches where they seemed lost and only made it into the postseason by the skin of their teeth. Once in the playoffs, they looked hopelessly overmatched against the St. Louis Blues and were bounced out in short order.
Todd McLellan Likely Staying On As San Jose Sharks Head Coach, But New Assistant Could Join Staff
The San Jose Sharks will have big decisions to make during the offseason. While head coach Todd McLellan is likely to stay, the team may hire a new assistant coach.

The Sharks will need to make a lot of difficult and serious decisions in the offseason, not least of which will be what to do about their coaching staff.
Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports that the team’s review process of its coaching staff is well underway. While Todd McLellan’s job as head coach looks to be secure, the Sharks may be looking into bringing on an assistant coach.
Head coach Todd McLellan’s job appears to be safe, but change could still be coming in regards to the assistants. CBC’s Elliotte Freidman recently reported that current Sharks scout and former defenseman Bryan Marchment “could join the San Jose staff.”
Along with Marchment, the Sharks have several other internal candidates, including development coach Mike Ricci, scout Dirk Graham, or a member of the coaching staff at their AHL affiliate in Worcester, Mass.
Kurz theorizes that assistant Jay Woodcroft, who was in charge of the Sharks’ penalty kill, may be reassigned elsewhere in the organization. The Sharks are expected to change their philosophy on the way they approach killing penalties.
