The Toronto Maple Leafs signed Swedish defenseman Petter Granberg to a three-year entry level contract.

The Leafs selected Granberg, a native of Gallivare, Sweden, in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The defenseman spent the past season in the Swedish Elite League, playing in 38 regular season games while scoring one goal and registering three assists.
He also appeared in 19 playoff games with his Swedish club, Skelleftea AIK, adding another goal and assist during the postseason.
Toronto General Manager Brian Burke announced the signing, locking up the prospect to bolster his defense. Granberg is a 6-foot-3, 205 pound blue-liner who is known for his physical play and is one of the top prospects in Sweden. He recently played in Canada at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship in Alberta, where he posted one assist in five games for the gold-medal winning Swedes.
