Flyers Vs. Devils, Game 3 Score: New Jersey Carries 2-1 Lead Into Second Period

The first period of Game 3 between the Devils and Flyers was almost a mirror image of the first period of Game 2. The Flyers hopped out to an early lead before New Jersey turned on the gas and outplayed Philly for the latter half of the period. The only difference? The Devils actually scored goals this time, and at the first intermission, they lead 2-1.

Brayden Schenn opened the scoring with a power play goal at the 6:08 mark of the period, but six minutes later, Patrik Elias put a perfectly placed shot under the arm of Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. 20 seconds later, Ilya Kovalchuk scored his fourth goal of the playoffs to give the Devils the lead.

Shots were 14-7 New Jersey in the first period, and that’s a number that’s extremely indicative of the way the first period played out. The Prudential Center is loud and the Devils look like the most confident team in the Eastern Conference right now.

We have full coverage of Game 2 between the Flyers and Devils in our StoryStream. For more on the Flyers, check in with Broad Street Hockey. For more on the Devils, check in with In Lou We Trust.
