NHL Playoffs 2012, Capitals Vs. Rangers: Washington In Position For History-Making Victory, Leads 2-0 After 2 Periods

After two periods of play, the Washington Capitals are 20 minutes away from winning four straight playoff games following overtime losses, as they lead the New York Rangers 2-0. How about that for resiliency?

As the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference, the arc this Capitals team is taking this Stanley Cup playoffs is fascinating to watch. Alex Ovechkin set the tone early in this one, notching a power-play goal, his fifth goal of the playoffs, just 1:28 into the game.

Jason Chimera added an insurance goal midway through the second period. Per the usual this spring, Capitals goalie Branden Holtby has been a rock between the pipes.

The Rangers, on the road and potentially on the verge of seeing the series knotted up at three games apiece, have struggled to apply legitimate pressure on offense despite outshooting the Capitals 21 to 17 through two periods.

A victory for the Capitals would force a compelling Game 7 in Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.
