Conn Smythe Trophy: Jonathan Quick Named MVP Of 2012 NHL Playoffs

On Monday night, the Los Angeles Kings took advantage of a costly New Jersey Devils major penalty in the first period and racked up a trio of quick goals en route to winning Game 6 by a final score of 6-1, claiming the first-ever Stanley Cup in franchise history.

It was historic in another respect, too, as goalie Jonathan Quick became just the third American to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. The Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded each year to the player considered most valuable to his team during the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

Quick was absolutely indispensable during the Kings’ breathtaking postseason run. He was 16-4 in 20 games played in the 2012 playoffs, managing three shutouts and posting a save percentage of .946 in more than 1,000 minutes in the net. His goals allowed average was 1.41.

Quick joins Brian Leetch and last year's winner Tim Thomas as the only American-born skaters to ever win the Conn Smythe.
