Defenseman Hal Gill is off the market after signing a two-year deal with the Nashville Predators on Thursday, three days before free agency begins.
Gill, 37, appeared in 23 regular season games for the Predators in 2011-12 after being traded to Nashville from the Montreal Canadiens prior to the trade deadline. In those 23 games, Gill notched five assists. He helped out on the bottom pairing for the Predators late in the season and into the playoffs, providing veteran experience and a steady game as depth for coach Barry Trotz.
Predators blog On The Forecheck calls it a “nice balance” between the team’s needs and the demands on Gill, balancing out the need for size and strength on the blueline with a rare two-year deal for an older player.
