On Sunday afternoon, the Colorado Avalanche reached an agreement with unrestricted free agent P.A. Parenteau for a four-year contract worth $16 million. Parenteau has spent the last two seasons with the New York Islanders and appeared in all but three games over that span, accumulating 38 goals and 120 points in 161 games.

P.A. Parenteau has reached an agreement with the Colorado Avalanche.
Originally selected by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim with the No. 264 overall selection in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Parenteau has played 188 career games in the NHL over four seasons with three teams. Prior to joining the Islanders, he had short stints with the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks.

Due to the shallow nature of this year’s free agency class, many expected Parenteau to receive a substantial raise after recording 18 goals and 49 assists for 67 points last season with the Islanders.
Now, Colorado hopes that he can recreate that production over the next four years while playing with standouts such as Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog.
