Free agent forward Petr Sykora is interested in playing in the NHL this season, according to his agent Allan Walsh on Thursday.

Walsh had stated earlier in the week that the 36-year-old was hoping to receive a chance to play in the league this year. Sykora played in all 82 regular season games with the Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Devils last season.

As of Thursday, the Devils are believed to be potentially interested in retaining the forward’s services.

The Washington Capitals have also been rumored to be interested in Sykora, as he has a connection to the team's new head coach (and former Devils' assistant) Adam Oates. However, Capitals general manager George McPhee stated on Wednesday that the club was looking to have a small training camp and were not interested in signing Sykora.

Sykora will not be allowed to sign with a team until the new collective bargaining agreement is ratified. It is expected that the NHL Players’ Association will pass the new deal upon the completion of an electronic vote over the course of Friday and Saturday.
