Phoenix Coyotes defensive prospect Connor Murphy will require season-ending surgery on his knee, according to an announcement by his junior club, the Sarnia Sting, on Thursday.

Connor Murphy will miss the rest of the 2012-13 season due to a knee injury he sustained at the 2013 World Junior Championship.

Murphy apparently sustained the injury during the gold medal game of the 2013 World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, while playing for Team USA. On the bright side, Team USA managed to win the game and Murphy was able to add a second gold medal to his collection, as he was a member of the 2011 Under-18 gold medal team.
Unfortunately, it also marks the fifth consecutive season that the 19-year-old has been unable to complete the entirety of a year.
The 6’3, 185-pound defenseman was originally chosen with the No. 20 pick in the 2011 NHL Draft by the Coyotes. Over the last two seasons with Sarnia, of the Ontario Hockey League, Murphy has played in 68 games and has registered 14 goals and 30 assists for a total of 44 points.
