Michael Del Zotto contract negotiations ongoing

The New York Rangers and Michael Del Zotto are trying to come to terms on a new contract.

Restricted-free agent Michael Del Zotto stated on Friday that his representation and the New York Rangers have been engaging in contract negotiations since Tuesday, according to a report by Andrew Gross of the Record.

Del Zotto’s agent Don Meehan has been meeting with the Rangers’ negotiating team in what Del Zotto described as on-going talks. The 22-year-old defenseman was unable to give any indication as to what kind of figures the two sides were discussing.

Having already sat out the last 113-days due to the lockout, he is hopeful that he will not have to wait much longer to return to playing:

“They’ve been ongoing since Tuesday. I don’t have much to tell you. I said Tuesday that we’d like to get it done sooner than later, and hopefully I don’t miss any of training camp. We missed four months here. It’s just a matter of getting a fair deal for both sides and something that works for both of us.”

Del Zotto was participating in an informal practice on Friday. If he is unable to come to terms on a new deal prior to the start of training camp (which is expected to begin on Sunday), he will be unable to participate in team activities.
