The Vancouver Canucks have signed free-agent defenseman Jim Vandermeer, according to an announcement on the team's official website.

Unrestricted free agent Jim Vandermeer has signed with the Vancouver Canucks.

Vandermeer played last season as a member of the San Jose Sharks and registered one goal and three assists for a total of four points in 25 games played. This will now be the 32-year-old defenseman's fifth team in as many seasons.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Flyers, Vandermeer has played in 461 regular season games making stops with the Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers and Phoenix Coyotes. Over the course of his career, he has registered 25 goals and 80 assists for a total of 105 points, as well as 664 penalty minutes.
This move comes less than 24 hours after the team signed free-agent defenseman Cam Barker to a one-year contract for a reported pro-rated salary of $700,000.
