The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenseman Mark Fistric via trade with the Dallas Stars, according to a post on the Oilers' official twitter account on Monday afternoon.

The Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenseman Mark Fistric from the Dallas Stars.

In exchange for Fistric, the Stars have acquired Edmonton’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft.
The 26-year-old blue-liner was originally drafted by the Stars with the No. 28 overall selection in the 2004 NHL Draft. Having made his debut with the team during the 2007-08 season, Fistric has played in 257 regular season games, registering three goals and 20 assists for a total of 23 points.
Fistric is signed through the course of the 2013 season and carries a cap-hit of $1.47 million. He will become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the year.
Edmonton is a young team with a wealth of offensive talent. The main concern was not whether they could score goals, but if they could prevent them. With reports stating that the club was looking to improve on the backend, this move substantiates those claims.
