Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne is considered one of the NHL's great treasures by those involved in the game and fans across the league.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau takes that sentiment one step further, stating that Selanne is the best athlete in the world given his ability to play the game at such a high-level at 42 years of age.

Supporting his argument with Selanne’s fitness level and his ability to contribute, Boudreau describes the “Finnish Flash” as a remarkable specimen, via the Orange County Register:

”And I said this last year and I fully believe that for his age, he’s the best athlete in the world.

”You play this sport at 42 and you’re leading the team in scoring. There’s older players playing in other sports but they might be a kicker in football. They might be a pitcher in baseball or a relief pitcher, especially a one-out guy.

“But they don’t play the grind of having 16 to 20 minutes a night like he does against the best players at this level in the world.”

Entering the 2013 season, Selanne has played in over 1,300 career regular season games, registering 663 goals and 743 assists for 1,406 points over that span. In addition, he has also logged 111 postseason games with 41 goals and 38 assists for 79 points.

Originally selected with the No. 10 overall selection by the Winnipeg Jets, Selanne has spent time with the Ducks, Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks.

Spending the majority of his career with the Ducks, Selanne helped the team win their first Stanley Cup championship in 2007.
