Defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky will not be permitted to play in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League because the New York Islanders and the NHL have not granted him permission to do so.

Due to the memorandum of understanding between the KHL and NHL, both leagues will not allow players with a contract in the other league to play. The KHL has made it clear that the league plans to respect this agreement and NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly has released several statements detailing that the KHL has assured him the same.
On Tuesday morning, it was reported by Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo!‘s Puck Daddy that the KHL plans to meet with NHL representatives to see if a solution can be arranged. Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reported that the KHL has formally submitted a request to the NHL to allow Visnovsky to remain in the league.
He is seeking to play the remainder of the year with Slovan Bratislava.
Visnovksy has previously stated that he doesn’t have an issue with playing for the Islanders. Of course, he did attempt to have his trade to the team nullified, albeit unsuccessfully.
There is also a report that Visnovsky has a personal issue to deal with in Slovakia, which might take two to three weeks to resolve.
If Visnovsky does not report, the Islanders will be allowed to suspend him until he does.
