The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Travis Zajac to a long-term contract extension, according to an announcement by team general manager Lou Lamoriello on Wednesday afternoon.

New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello announced on Wednesday afternoon that the team had come to terms on a long-term contract with forward Travis Zajac.

The deal is for eight years and is worth $46 million (annual average value of $5.75 million), according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.
Lamoriello met with the assembled media following the first period of a scrimmage between the Devils and the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Albany Devils.
The two sides had been discussing the extension prior to the lockout and completed the deal over the course of this week. Zajac is entering the final year of a four-year, $15.55 million deal, which carried a annual average value of $3,887,500 against the salary cap.
He would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.
Originally selected with No. 20 overall pick in the 2004 NHL Draft by the Devils, the 27-year-old has accumulated 91 goals and 164 assists for a total of 255 points over the course of 423 regular season games.
