Forward Mike Knuble has signed a tryout contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the hopes of earning another shot with an NHL team.

Knuble signed a tryout contract with the Red Wings but failed to make the team this season. Now, the 40-year-old will attempt to stay in shape in the hopes that another NHL team comes calling.
Due to the condensed nature of the 48-game season this year, it is expected that several players will suffer hamstring and groin injuries. In addition, clubs anticipate that depth will play a key role in success. With that in mind, it seems Knuble is attempting to prove to teams that he is still capable of playing and wants to be ready if another opportunity presents itself.
Knuble is a University of Michigan alumnus and was selected by the Red Wings with the No. 76 overall selection in the 1991 NHL Draft. Having played in over 1,000 career games, Knuble spent the last three seasons as a member of the Washington Capitals.
