The Dallas Stars and Jaime Benn have yet to come to terms on a new contract. While the two sides are open to different term lengths, the total salary reportedly remains an area of disagreement.

Restricted free agent forward Jamie Benn is expected to miss the Dallas Stars' season opener on Saturday night.

Benn still requires a new contract and has yet to come to terms with Dallas as of Friday afternoon. While an agreement has yet to be struck, it is believed that the two sides are continuing to engage in discussions.

On Thursday afternoon, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet tweeted that it appeared the two sides were nearing a deal that would pay him a total of $33 million over five or six years.

However, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reported on Friday afternoon that both sides are open to different term lengths but have been unable to agree on dollar amounts for any of the proposed terms. Benn is currently at his home in British Columbia waiting for a deal to be struck.

With consecutive games this weekend, Benn will likely be unavailable for both.
