Washington Capitals defenseman Jack Hillen has been placed on injured reserve and has been listed as week-to-week due to an upper-body injury, according to an announcement by the team on Monday morning.

The Washington Capitals announced that defenseman Jack Hillen has been placed on injured reserve. In his place, the team has recalled Tomas Kundratek from the Hershey Bears.

Hillen sustained the injury after receiving a check from Tampa Bay captain Vincent Lecavalier during the Capitals' regular season opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night. The 26-year-old blue liner appeared to be favoring his left side following the hit.
After the game, head coach Adam Oates referred to it as an upper-body injury.
Hillen finished the game with 3:29 of total ice time.
With Hillen out, Washington has recalled defenseman Tomas Kundratek from the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears. The 23-year-old left-handed blue liner currently leads Hershey in goals (13) and ranks third in total points (26). He was also named to the AHL All-Star game.
Listed at 6'1, 201 pounds, Kundratek was originally drafted with the No. 90 overall selection by the New York Rangers in the 2008 NHL Draft. He was traded to the Capitals in November of last season for Francois Bouchard.
He played in five games with the Capitals last season.
