Detroit Red Wings defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo could miss several weeks due to a shoulder injury, according to head coach Mike Babcock on Monday night.

The Detroit Red Wings depleted defense corps took another hit on Monday night when Carlo Colaiacovo sustained a shoulder injury against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Colaiacovo sustained the injury in the third period of Monday night's contest against the Columbus Blue Jackets. When asked how long the 29-year-old defenseman would be out, Babcock stated that he didn't believe he would be available any time soon.
General manager Ken Holland later stated that Colaiacovo would be examined by a doctor on Tuesday and more information would be available then.
Detroit signed Colaiacovo as an unrestricted free agent this past offseason to a two-year, $5 million contract.
In addition to Colaiacovo, the Red Wings' defense is dealing with other injuries to Jonathan Ericsson (shoulder) and Jakub Kindl (groin). On Tuesday morning, Holland informed Ansar Kahn of MLive.com that he was trying to sign a veteran defenseman for the team's contest against the Dallas Stars.
