The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Kent Huskins to a one-year, one-way contract, according to multiple reports on Tuesday morning.

The decision to sign a defenseman was anticipated because general manager Ken Holland stated as much earlier on Tuesday.

With the team's defensive corps already depleted, the Red Wings defense took another hit on Monday night when Carlo Colaiacovo suffered what is believed to be a injury to his left shoulder. When asked about when to expect a return, head coach Mike Babcock stated it would probably be a few weeks.
Colaiacovo was supposed to meet with a doctor on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury.
In terms of Huskins, he is probably not exactly the kind of addition Red Wings fans would like to see.

Originally selected with the No. 156 overall pick in the 1998 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, Huskins made his debut in 2006 with the Anaheim Ducks. The 33-year-old has also spent time with the San Jose Sharks and St. Louis Blues.
