Brayden Schenn suspension: Flyers forward will miss one game for Tuesday’s hit
The Flyers will have to play Thursday’s game against the Rangers without Brayden Schenn.

With his first decision of the season, the NHL's head disciplinarian has suspended Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn one game for his hit on Anton Volchenkov of the New Jersey Devils in Tuesday night's game.

Schenn clearly left his feet and made contact with Volchenkov’s head, two things the league has been working towards getting rid of in recent years. Shanahan also said Schenn charged on the play, a claim that Travis Hughes of Broad Street Hockey disagrees with. While Schenn didn’t take the necessary amount of strides to constitute a charge, Shanahan notes that he left his feet, which he says falls under the same penalty.
This is Schenn’s first suspension, and he has never been fined, which likely worked in his favor in making this just a one-game suspension. Volchenkov was also not injured on the play, which helped Schenn’s case a bit as well.
Tom Sestito will likely be Schenn's replacement in the lineup for Thursday's game against the New York Rangers. The Flyers already called up Tye McGinn to take the place of the injured Zac Rinaldo.
