Restricted free agent defenseman P.K. Subban stated in an interview with Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazzette that he hopes he does not get traded by the Montreal Canadiens and wants to remain with the team for the long term.

Restricted free agent defenseman P.K. Subban stated that he does not want to be traded by the Montreal Canadiens and would like to remain with the team in a long-term capacity.

Subban and the Canadiens have been attempting to find common ground on a new contract. As of Thursday morning, those attempts have proven to be futile.
The 23-year-old defenseman spent an hour discussing the situation with Stubbs for the story he published on Thursday morning.
During the course of the conversation, Subban explained that while he thrives on playing in Montreal’s hockey hotbed, he believes that he needs to be fairly compensated for the services he provides the Canadiens. When the topic of an offer sheet or trade came up, Subban stated that he was not aware of whether those courses of action had been discussed.
While he remains firm in his desire to remain in Montreal, he acknowledges that he would likely be of benefit to other teams in the league, via the Montreal Gazzette:
”Do I see myself playing for any other team? From a business standpoint, I’m sure there are other teams where I could fit in and be a big part of things moving forward, give them a chance to win. But ultimately, deep down inside, I want to play for the Montreal Canadiens.
Subban’s agent Don Meehan is expected to meet with Canadiens’ general manager Marc Bergevin prior to the end of the week.
