Penguins trades: Pittsburgh acquire draft pick, AHL forward

The Pittsburgh Penguins executed two independent trades on Thursday morning with the Dallas Stars and New York Rangers.

The Pittsburgh Penguins executed two trades on Thursday morning, completing independent deals with the Dallas Stars and New York Rangers.

The Penguins sent 25-year-old defenseman Carl Sneep to Dallas for a conditional draft pick, according to an announcement by general manager Ray Shero. Sneep was originally selected by the club with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2006 NHL Draft. He has played one NHL game and spent the majority of his career with the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

In 40 games this season with Wilkes-Barre, Sneep has registered 10 assists and 26 penalty minutes in 40 games played.

Pittsburgh then traded forward Benn Ferriero to the Rangers for forward Chad Kolarik, according to Katie Strang of ESPN New York. Kolarik has registered 16 goals and 19 assists for a total of 35 points in 41 games this season with the Connecticut Whale of the AHL.
