Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul is projected to miss six weeks due to a broken forearm, according to head coach Randy Carlyle on Thursday afternoon.

Lupul sustained the injury when he was hit in the arm with a point shot from defenseman Dion Phaneuf during the second period of Wednesday night's 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Upon being hit, Lupul immediately left the ice surface and went to the team's dressing room. He did not return to the game.
This injury comes days after Lupul signed a five-year, $26.25 million extension with the team.
With Lupul out of the lineup, the team has already recalled forward Matt Frattin from the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies. In 57 career NHL games, Frattin has registered eight goals and seven assists for 15 points. This season with the Marlies, he has compiled 14 goals and four assists for 18 points in 23 games.
As of Thursday, Carlyle had not yet determined how he would adjust his lines.
