Colin McDonald hit on Ben Lovejoy: Suspension worthy?

Colin McDonald will be facing a discipline hearing with Brendan Shanahan on Wednesday. Do you think he will be suspended for his hit on Ben Lovejoy?

New York Islanders forward Colin McDonald will engage in a discipline hearing with NHL head disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan on Wednesday for a hit he administered to Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ben Lovejoy on Tuesday night.

The play occurred with nearly one minute remaining in the second period.

With Lovejoy attempting to gather a puck dumped into the Pittsburgh defensive zone by McDonald, the Islanders forward continued pursuit, likely trying to put the pieces in place to develop a late attack by his team. However, once Lovejoy gained possession, McDonald drove the defender into the boards from behind.

The play was immediately whistled dead by the officials and McDonald was given a boarding major, as well as a game misconduct.

Lovejoy was able to get up under his own power fairly quickly and was able to play in the third period.

This is potentially the second suspension of the 2013 season, with Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn receiving a one-game ban last week.

Do you think McDonald will be suspended? If so, for how many games? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
