The results of the MRI on Los Angeles Kings forward Anze Kopitar's right knee indicated that the initial diagnosis of a Grade 2 MCL sprain is accurate, according to general manager Dean Lombardi on Monday afternoon.

While the images from the MRI were not clear enough to tell, Lombardi stated that what was visible was indication enough that the initial diagnosis was correct.
According to reports on Saturday when news of the injury first broke, Kopitar’s agent stated that the 25-year-old forward would likely miss any where from two-to-three weeks. If that projection proves to be correct, Kopitar could potentially miss the beginning of the season.
With the NHL and NHL Players’ Association coming to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement, the only thing standing between the league resuming regular business operations is the drafting and ratification of the deal. With that expected to occur over the course of this week, teams’ are hoping to open training camps this weekend in order to start the season the weekend after that.
If Kopitar isn’t ready, the Kings will be allowed to suspend him without pay.
When asked if that was a course of action the team would take, Lombardi stated he would ask the higher-ups about it, according to Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times.
