Henrik Zetterberg will be named captain of the Red Wings, according to reports
Henrik Zetterberg is expected to be named the next captain of the Detroit Red Wings.

Since Nicklas Lidstrom retired this past offseason, Zetterberg has largely been assumed to be the next player to take over as the official leader of the storied franchise.
Lidstrom had previously acted as the club's captain since 2006 and had replaced Hall of Fame forward Steve Yzerman, who had been the club's captain since 1986. In 2008, Lidstrom became the first European born captain to win the Stanley Cup when the Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games.
Zetterberg was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy during that year as the MVP of the playoffs.
Upon Lidstrom being named the team’s captain, Zetterberg was also named as one of the team’s alternate captains. Zetterberg has spent the entirety of his nine-year NHL career with the Red Wings and has registered 252 goals and 372 assists for a total of 624 points over 668 games.
