Ryan Callahan will miss three to four weeks with a broken thumb he suffered during the New York Rangers' 2-0 victory over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, his team announced. Callahan is just coming off a long rehab stint from offseason shoulder surgery to put himself back in the New York Rangers' lineup by the second game of the season.
Ryan Callahan injury: Rangers captain out 3-4 weeks with broken thumb
He has scored three goals in the past two games.

How Callahan suffered the injury is still unclear. The Rangers did not practice Thursday, so neither Callahan nor head coach Alain Vigneault was available for comment. Callahan had been playing well just before the injury, scoring three goals in his last two games. He scored and notched six shots on goal in 22 minutes Wednesday.
The injury leaves the Rangers without three of their top offensive weapons in Callahan, Rick Nash (head) and Carl Hagelin (shoulder). The Ranger recalled Darroll Powe from AHL affiliate Hartford to take Callahan's spot on the roster for the time being. Powe has one goal and a plus-1 rating in four games for Hartford this season.
