Reimer was attempting to cover a loose puck just outside of his goal crease when Leivo accidentally ran into him. After spending some time on the ice, he was replaced by Jonathan Bernier.
The two goalies have been splitting the playing time this season, with Thursday’s game being Reimer’s fourth start of the year. In his previous three games he had posted a .916 save percentage.
Reimer has had a history of head and neck problems throughout his career.
The 2012-13 season was the best of his career to date as he helped backstop Toronto to its first playoff appearance in seven years. That's why it was a bit of a surprise when the Maple Leafs front office went out in the offseason and made the blockbuster trade to acquire Bernier from the Los Angeles Kings.
Through the first seven games this season, the duo has worked out quite well for Toronto as the Leafs are off to a 6-1-0 start and have a .934 save percentage, fifth-best in the league.
