Jonathan Bernier had some problems with this bounce off the boards

Luck was not on the Toronto Maple Leafs’ side Thursday night.

Since the start of last season, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been toying with the hockey analytics community by getting badly outshot and losing the possession battle nearly every night only to find a way to keep winning games.

A lot of games.

On Thursday, some of their luck started to change, at least for one night.

After a holding a 2-0 lead through two periods, and once again surrendering a ton of shots, Toronto allowed Carolina to score three straight goals in the third period against Jonathan Bernier to give the Hurricanes a 3-2 win. The third goal, which was credited to defenseman Ron Hainsey, was completely ridiculous.

That’s tough.

Bernier had to replace James Reimer just 32 seconds into the game after Reimer left following a collision with teammate Josh Leivo.

That’s what you call a bad night for Toronto goaltenders.
