If the Devils earn their first win of the season on Saturday against the New York Rangers they'll do so without two of their best forwards. New Jersey coach Peter DeBoer confirmed Saturday morning that Patrik Elias and Damien Brunner's statuses are in question for Saturday's contest.

Elias is doubtful with the flu, while Brunner is a game-time decision after suffering an injury in practice.
DeBoer said that Elias, who is dealing with the flu, is doubtful. Brunner left the morning skate early with an apparent shoulder injury, and was not available to the media after practice. DeBoer would only say that Brunner is “dealing with some nagging stuff” and is a game-time decision.
Losing both forwards for any amount of time would obviously hurt the struggling Devils, who are 0-3-4 to start the season. Elias has two goals and two assists in seven games, while Brunner leads the team in points with three goals and two assists. New Jersey forward Ryane Clowe, signed this past offseason, is out with a concussion.
