Jonathan Ericsson to miss 2-3 weeks, Niklas Kronwall expected to return Wednesday

With Ericsson leaving the lineup, the Detroit Red Wings are expected to have Niklas Kronwall return.

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson will miss two-to-three weeks with a shoulder injury, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Ericsson sustained the injury against the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night, but it wasn't discovered until Monday. Ericsson missed the team's most recent contest against the San Jose Sharks, as he attended the birth of his daughter. He underwent an MRI afterwards, which revealed the extent of his injury.

In nine games this season, Ericsson has averaged a team-leading 22:09 of ice-time per game, which includes a substantial amount of time on the penalty kill (2:59 average).

While the Red Wings will be without Ericsson, they could have Niklas Kronwall back in the lineup as early as Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators. Kronwall sustained a concussion last week, and hasn't experienced a setback in his rehabilitation. He is expecting to be cleared for Wednesday but is still waiting for the results of testing.
