Jason Spezza sets himself up for a goal

Jason Spezza set himself up for his second goal of the night.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Through the first two periods of Wednesday's game in Detroit, Jason Spezza had scored two goals for the Ottawa Senators.

Even though he didn’t have an official assist in the box score, he did sort of set himself up for his second goal.

Yeah, that’s Spezza going in one-on-two, firing the puck wide of the net (whether it’s intentional or unintentional is something only he knows), and then continuing to drive to the net to bang in the rebound. That’s taking advantage of the active boards at Joe Louis Arena that we always hear so much about.

That goal, which was Spezza’s seventh of the season, gave Ottawa a 4-1 lead.
