The NHL announced on Thursday evening that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri has been suspended three games for his hit on Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom on Wednesday night.
Nazem Kadri suspension: 3 games for hit on Niklas Backstrom
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri was suspended three games for his hit on Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom.

Backstrom was injured on the play and had to leave the game while Kadri was given a two-minute minor for goaltender interference.
Here is Brendan Shanahan’s explanation of the play.
Kadri was eventually ejected from the game on Wednesday for a hit he delivered on Mikael Granlund in the third period, but the NHL decided upon review that the five-minute major and ejection fit the crime.
The latter play proved to be costly for Toronto as the Wild scored on that power play to tie the game and send it overtime where they would win in a shootout thanks to goals from Zach Parise and Jason Pominville.
As a result of the suspension, Kadri will lose $44,615.37 in salary.
