Shawn Thornton gets some puck luck

Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton received some help from the stick of Jack Johnson for his second goal of the season.

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Shawn Thornton is known more for his ability to fight than his ability to score goals. But in the second period on Thursday night he snapped a 1-1 tie against the Columbus Blue Jackets with a booming slap shot off the rush.

He was also the recipient of a little puck luck when Jack Johnson's stick gave the shot just the right amount of bounce to beat Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Sometimes, these are the types of breaks you need to score in the NHL. A stick in the lane. A good bounce that goes in just the right place to throw a goalie off. A combination of the two. It's all good.
