Sometimes in the NHL a team can play really well and simply not get the result, mainly because the other goalie just plays out of his mind.
NHL scores: Rick Nash returns; Avalanche crush Blackhawks
Rick Nash returned to the New York Rangers lineup on Tuesday night, but it wasn’t enough against the Boston Bruins. Elsewhere, the Colorado Avalanche snapped their three-game losing streak with a blowout win against Chicago.

That's what happened to the New York Rangers on Tuesday night as they fell to the Boston Bruins, 2-1, in Rick Nash's return to the lineup.
New York peppered Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask with 44 shots but were only able to get one behind him as he all but stole two points for Boston. It certainly wasn't for a lack of chances from the Rangers. Chris Kreider himself had two breakaways in the game (and a penalty shot) but could not capitalize.
Elsewhere, the Colorado Avalanche snapped a three-game losing streak by blowing out the Chicago Blackhawks. Paul Stastny had a particularly strong game for the Avs, adding a goal and an assist while Semyon Varlamov stopped 36 of Chicago's 37 shots.

It certainly didn’t go well for the team as the Lightning were blown out in Los Angeles, did St. Louis did record an assist on Tampa Bay’s first goal.
2. How will Rick Nash perform in his first game back?
The Rangers limited Nash to 17 minutes in their 2-1 loss to the Bruins, but they were an eventful 17 minutes as Nash attempted 11 shots, getting five on net. Like the Rangers as a team, Nash had his chances but just wasn’t able to beat Tuukka Rask.
3. Will Josh Harding allow two goals or fewer?
No. Harding made some big saves early but the Canadiens were just too much, chasing Harding in the second period after he allowed three goals on 19 shots. Minnesota coach Mike Yeo said the change was made so he could start Harding again on Wednesday. It's only the second time this season Harding has allowed three goals in a game, with both of them coming against the Canadiens. On this night, all three goals were scored by Max Pacioretty.
4. Will the Detroit Red Wings record a win against the Nashville Predators?
The Red Wings extended their losing streak to seven games with a 2-0 loss to the Predators, and unlike the previous five losses, this one came in regulation. Sign of bigger problems for the Red Wings? Or a team that’s just massively unlucky right now on the ice?
5. Will the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers combine for five goals?
Yes, and the Flyers were able to do that all by themselves in a 5-2 win. Claude Giroux found the back of the net for the second time this season while Sean Couturier scored his first goal in 25 games for the Flyers.

Finally, after nearly two months, the Toronto Maple Leafs received a goal from their big free agent acquisition, David Clarkson. He missed the first part of the season due to a suspension, and then played 10 games without scoring a goal before finally lighting the lamp in a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders. Clarkson is never going to be a big-time goal-scorer for the Maple Leafs, but he's certainly better than the goal-scoring numbers he put up over the first 10 games.
Stat of the Night
After recording shutouts in back to back starts, Ben Scrivens kept the Tampa Bay Lightning off the board for 36:17 on Tuesday night until Valtteri Filppula scored late in the second period. That goal snapped Scrivens’ shutout streak that lasted 191:19, the second longest streak in Kings history behind only Jonathan Quick (202:11). Scrivens has been starting for the Kings while Quick has been sidelined with an injury, and he’s filled in admirably.
