Even though Mike Richards is no longer the captain of the Philadelphia Flyers, he still seems to be lending a helping hand to one of his former teammates.
Text from Mike Richards helped Claude Giroux relax during slump
Mike Richards doesn’t play for the Philadelphia Flyers anymore, but he’s still willing to help the players that do.

With Claude Giroux in the middle of a goal-scoring slump that extended back to last season, it was a text from Richards that helped him relax and bust out of his funk.
“It wasn’t going right, and I got a nice text from Mike Richards,” Giroux told Dan Rosen of NHL.com on Tuesday afternoon. “I think he gave me a boost to relax and play the game. It’s a great game. There’s a reason why we play in the NHL. It’s because we know what we’re doing. It’s just about going back to basics, going out there, have fun, play the game.”
Giroux opened the season by going 15 straight games without a goal, and when you add in the final six games of the 2012-13 season his slump went on for 21 games. He’s since broken out of it a bit with two goals and three assists in his past five games, a stretch that has seen the Flyers go 4-0-1.
Richards and Giroux were teammates from 2007-08 until Richards was traded to Los Angeles for Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn prior to the 2011-12 season.
