As far as first impressions go, it’s awfully difficult to do better than Cornell goalie Mitch Gillam.
Cornell goalie goal: Mitch Gillam scores in NCAA debut
Cornell freshman goalie Mitch Gillam not only earned a win in his NCAA debut, he also scored a goal.

The freshman netminder made his NCAA debut on Tuesday night against Niagara University and stopped 24 of 26 shots to earn the win. More importantly for our purposes, he scored a goal in the closing seconds when he fired a shot the length of the ice into an empty net at the opposite end.

And yes, goalies scoring at the NCAA level is just as rare as it is in the NHL.
Mitch Gillam of @CUBigRedHockey is just the 8th NCAA Division I goalie credited with a goal, the 3d to shoot the puck himself.

Earlier this season we saw Mike Smith score a goal for the Phoenix Coyotes with just 0.1 seconds remaining in a game against the Detroit Red Wings.
