Stars vs. Senators: Valeri Nichushkin scores 1st goal

It’s about time.

It's been a long time coming, but Dallas Stars rookie Valeri Nichushkin finally scored his first NHL goal on Sunday.

The 10th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, Nichushkin had yet to score a goal through twelve NHL games. After a slow start, the young Russian had been playing better as of late but hadn't cashed in.

The Stars had been peppering Ottawa Senators goalie Craig Anderson on Sunday with shot after shot, and Nichushkin even had a close call in the first period before he was hooked out of a scoring chance on a breakaway.

Then, two minutes into the second period, Nichushkin broke through:

The goal gave the Stars a two-goal lead, but the Senators have cut it to 2-1 midway through the second period.
