For 57 minutes the Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes played what had to be one of the ugliest games of the season, failing to score a goal. It had more to do with inept offense than any sort of strong defensive play, and it seemed like it was going to be the first team to make a mistake.

Manny Malhotra scored his first goal since March 2012, and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Carolina Hurricanes.

And then everybody started making mistakes in what turned out to be a 2-1 Hurricanes win.
First, Carolina's Nathan Gerbe decided to jump Mark Streit in front of the net and earned a double-minor for roughing, giving the Flyers a power play. Scott Hartnell converted on that opportunity by deflecting in a shot from the point past Justin Peters.
Just as the Flyers appeared to be on their way to their second straight win, Niklas Grossman iced the puck at the worst possible time which helped lead to a game-tying goal by Carolina’s Jordan Staal to send the game to overtime.
That's where Manny Malhotra did this.
Yeah. Manny Malhotra. The Hurricanes decided to give him a look a couple of weeks ago on a tryout contract and have tried to take advantage of his face-off skills and have used him almost exclusively on defensive zone draws. But on Tuesday he made his impact offensively, scoring his first goal at the NHL level since March 26, 2012.
Malhotra missed most of the 2012-13 season due to an eye injury.
