Alex Ovechkin returned to the Washington Capitals' lineup on Tuesday night and picked right up where he left off, scoring two goals in a 6-2 win over the New York Islanders.

Alex Ovechkin returned to the Washington Capitals lineup on Tuesday and scored two goals in a blowout win.

The Capitals used a five-goal second period and scored four power-play goals on their way to a convincing win that also featured first-round draft pick Tom Wilson scoring his first NHL goal. Washington's four power-play goals were a season high. To put that total into perspective, the Anaheim Ducks have scored just four power-play goals all season (via Japers' Rink).
Elsewhere, the Stars forced overtime thanks to a late penalty shot goal by Vernon Fiddler and then beat Boston on a pair of shootout goals from former Bruins Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley.
Erik Karlsson scored a pair of goals in Ottawa's win over the Blue Jackets, while Edmonton's Mark Arcobello scored in overtime to help the Oilers salvage a game that saw them surrender a two-goal third period lead.
In the late game, the Buffalo Sabres found a way to upset the heavily favored San Jose Sharks in a shootout, but it wasn't without a little controversy. San Jose's Tyler Kennedy appeared to win the game in overtime on a shot that was thought to hit the post, but actually crossed the goal line. The play was never reviewed and the game continued with Buffalo winning on Cody Hodgson's shootout goal.

A lot. Seguin was booed all night, then he scored one of the deciding goals in the shootout (Rich Peverley, the other part of that trade, scored the winner). It was pretty much the perfect storm.
2. How will Ovi look?
Pretty incredible. He scored two goals, added an assist, and attempted 12 shots in his 18:41 of ice-time. In other words, it was just another night at the office for Ovechkin as he continues to tear apart the NHL this season.
3. Will Edmonton snap their scoreless streak?
The Oilers not only scored a few goals, they also found a way to win on the road by knocking off the Florida Panthers in overtime. It wasn't pretty, and it certainly wasn't easy, as the Oilers let a two-goal third period lead slip away in the final 10 minutes.
4. Will Alex Pietrangelo extend his goal streak?
No. Alex Steen (his league-leading 13th goal of the season) and Chris Stewart provided the scoring in regulation for the Blues in their 3-2 shootout win in Montreal. Pietrangelo entered Tuesday's game having scored four goals in his previous four games.
5. Will Phoenix extend their winning streak to five games?
The Coyotes did, in fact, extend their winning streak to five with a 3-2 shootout win over the Vancouver Canucks. Mike Smith stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced while Radim Vrbata and Antoine Vermette provided the offense in the shootout.

The one play or moment from Tuesday’s games that will be making headlines over the next couple of days.
It’s going to be the overtime goal that wasn’t in San Jose, and how in the world that play was never reviewed. The puck was clearly in the net, and before the whistle was blown (image via @tedstarkey). Big miss by the NHL on that one, and it ended up costing the Sharks a point.
Stat of the Night
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Douglas Murray played 16 minutes in their 3-2 shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues. In that time the Canadiens attempted just three shots. The Blues attempted 25. That's bad. Also bad: Whatever it was that happened on Alex Steen's first period goal.
