The Edmonton Oilers are shaking things up.
Ladislav Smid trade: Oilers send defenseman to Flames for prospects
The Edmonton Oilers completed a trade with their long-time rivals by sending defenseman Ladislav Smid to the Calgary Flames for two prospects.

Not only are they looking for an upgrade in net with free agent Ilya Bryzgalov, the team also announced on Friday evening that it has traded defenseman Ladislav Smid to the Calgary Flames in exchange for center Roman Horak and goaltender Laurent Brossoit.
The Oilers are also sending goaltender Olivier Roy to the Flames as part of the deal.
Smid, 27, just signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Oilers a year ago. In 17 games this season he scored one goal to go with one assist. Even with his new deal his role seemed to decrease a bit this season, as he was playing just 17 minute per game. In each of the three previous years, he was always logging more than 20 minutes per game.
Horak was originally a fifth-round pick by the New York Rangers and has spent the past three years in the Flames organization, getting a couple of looks at the NHL level. In 82 career games, he's scored five goals and recorded 13 assists.
The Flames drafted Brossoit in the sixth round of the 2011 draft. After playing his junior career with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League, he’s made his pro hockey debut this season, appearing in three ECHL games with the Alaska Aces and two AHL games with the Abbotsford Heat.
