The New York Islanders lost their newest addition to injury on Saturday, as forward Thomas Vanek left after taking just one shift against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Islanders announced he will not return with an upper-body injury.

The injury seems to have occurred just 23 seconds into the game, when Vanek was creating all kinds of chaos in front of the Blue Jackets' net. Vanek fell over goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and two other Blue Jackets as the puck escaped his stick.
He didn’t return to the bench for the remainder of the period and hasn’t been seen since.
Vanek was recently acquired from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Matt Moulson and two first round picks. New York traded for him to help bolster their team for a playoff run, so losing Vanek for any amount of time would make such a thing difficult.
