It seemed likely that former Maple Leafs goalie Ben Scrivens would get the start in Toronto against his old team on Wednesday night, but Kings coach Darryl Sutter decided to stick with the hot hand and go with rookie Martin Jones.
Martin Jones finally gives up a goal
Martin Jones had his shutout streak end on Wednesday night thanks to a Cody Franson goal. He went 176 minutes without giving up a goal.

Seeing as how Jones had just recorded back-to-back shutouts, including a 31-save effort on Tuesday night in Montreal, it’s at least easy to understand Sutter’s strategy.
Jones was able to extend his shutout streak with a perfect first period against the Maple Leafs that included a number of tough saves, including a couple on Phil Kessel, but finally had it come to an end when Cody Franson beat him with this one-timer on the power play.
In the end Jones’ streak lasted 177:16, which is pretty impressive. Even more impressive is that it’s only the second longest streak by a Kings goaltender this season, and the other streak doesn’t even belong to Jonathan Quick. Scrivens had a streak that lasted 191 minutes back in November.
The two goalies have been filling in for Quick, who remains sidelined with a groin injury.
