Nikita Kucherov completes Lightning comeback with slick shootout goal

Nikita Kucherov embarrasses another goalie in the shootout.

With three minutes to play on Tuesday night the Tampa Bay Lightning were down by two goals to the Islanders and seemed to be on their way to their sixth loss in nine games.

That's when the Islanders turned into, well, the Islanders and allowed Valtteri Filppula to score a pair of goals, including one with just three seconds to play, to send the game to overtime. It was in the shootout that Lightning rookie Nikita Kucherov scored the game-winner, and it sure is worth another look.

And it's not the first time this season he's victimized a goalie with that move. Last week he beat Capitals goalie Philipp Grubauer with pretty much the same play.

Beautiful.

What's not beautiful right now is the play of the Islanders who can't seem to get out of their own way. With the loss on Tuesday the Islanders have won just three of their past 22 games and haven't won a game in regulation since Nov. 12 when they beat the Nashville Predators.

The Islanders, a playoff team a year ago, are in last place in the Metropolitan Division with just 25 points on the season.
