Mikhail Grabovski goes for the soccer pass

Mikhail Grabovski tried to play soccer on ice, and then he fell down.

After losing his stick in the neutral zone on Monday night, Washington Capitals forward Mikhail Grabovski did everything he could to make a play to set up his teammate.

It did not go well.

The silver lining? It was hilarious.

You can’t blame him for trying, especially since we can recall a few plays in recent history involving players doing the exact same thing (minus the falling down).

Back in 2008 Jarkko Ruutu, then a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, found himself in a similar position and nearly pulled it off.

And then were Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson in last year’s playoffs (via @Wham_City).

That’s how it’s supposed to work. But give Grabovski an ‘A’ for effort anyway.

And just because it seems fitting, here is this wonderful creation from our friend @capitalshill at Japers’ Rink.
