The NHL is finally paying Wayne Gretzky the money he is owed
Wayne Gretzky is finally getting the money he is owed. It’s about time.

According to a report from ESPN's Pierre LeBrun on Tuesday, the NHL is finally reimbursing Wayne Gretzky the money (somewhere between $7 and 8 million) he is owed by former Phoenix Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes.
The payment is to make Gretzky whole following the team’s bankruptcy in 2009 when he was the coach of the team (and also the highest paid coach in the NHL). According to LeBrun the NHL had hoped get the money owed to Gretzky from Moyes in a lawsuit, but a judge threw out most of the league’s claims back in October. That’s when the league and Gretzky finally struck a deal to get him his money and perhaps fix what had seemed to be a chilly relationship between the league and its greatest player.
Gretzky, a Hockey Hall of Famer and the NHL’s all-time leader in just about every major offensive category, coached the Coyotes for four years, compiling a 143-161-24 record, never qualifying for the playoffs.
