Wil Myers sounds the siren before Hurricanes game

The Carolina Hurricanes had 2013 American League rookie of the year Wil Myers sounding the siren before their game against San Jose on Friday night.

Every once in a while the Carolina Hurricanes score somebody big to sound the warning siren before their home games (former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher has done it a handful of times, perhaps most famously before a playoff game against the Pittsburgh Penguins back in 2009).

On Friday, it was Tampa Bay Rays outfielder and 2013 American League Rookie of the Year Wil Myers.

Before Myers made his Major League debut he appeared in 64 games with the Durham Bulls, Tampa Bay’s Triple-A affiliate. He was also born in nearby Thomasville, North Carolina.

Myers finished his rookie season with a .293 average, 13 home runs, 53 RBI, and an .831 OPS.
