Chris Kelly injury: Bruins forward suffers broken ankle, won’t travel with team

Boston called up Matt Fraser and Ryan Spooner from the AHL.

The casualties from Saturday's roughhousing match in Boston keep piling up. The latest is Bruins forward Chris Kelly, who suffered a broken ankle, according to TSN's Darren Dreger, and won't travel with the team to Toronto on Sunday.

Kelly suffered the injury when he was slashed by Pascal Dupuis at some point during the course of the game.

Forwards Loui Eriksson (concussion) and Shawn Thornton (impending suspension) did not travel with the team either. In response, the Bruins have called up forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Fraser from the Providence Bruins of the AHL. Spooner has appeared in two NHL games this season, registering two assists. Spooner is Providence's leading scorer with 24 points in 21 games. Fraser leads Providence with 16 goals this season.

Kelly has three goals and seven points through 23 games this season.
