Capitals vs. Panthers: Crazy bounces give Drew Shore first NHL goal
The hockey gods smiled on Drew Shore, guiding a pinball puck into the net.
It happened too quickly to see in real-time, but the slow-motion review made it all clear: Drew Shore scored his first NHL goal after the puck bounced off Washington goaltender Braden Holtby three times, then off Drew Shore's stick, then off another Washington player and into the net.
It wasn’t pretty or clean, but that doesn’t matter in the end. The officials didn’t call the goal one way or the other on the ice (is that even allowed?) but correctly declared the tally good after a brief review.
There is some great work in this clip from Panthers' color analyst Bill Lindsay, who calls the goal correctly right away and then tells any semblance of impartiality to take a hike. He's clearly pulling for Shore to get the goal, and his enthusiasm is infectious.
The goal put Florida up 5-3 in the third period, but Washington would score two goals late to tie the game and would then win it in overtime on a goal from Troy Brouwer.
